Teaching AI Literacy: Preparing Classrooms for a Smarter Tomorrow

A timely lesson ahead of DIG-IT: The Class Garden

Next month, Tech It Out Books releases its first children’s title, DIG-IT: Class Garden—a story that turns curiosity about technology into action for the planet. The launch comes as schools across the U.S. race to define what “AI literacy” means for students.

From curiosity to comprehension

AI literacy isn’t about coding alone. It’s about understanding how systems gather data, make predictions, and sometimes get things wrong. Our three pillars remain:

  1. Curiosity — Ask how the algorithm learns.

  2. Creativity — Use AI to build, not copy.

  3. Community — Consider who benefits and who might be left out.

Learning through stories

In DIG-IT: Class Garden, Zuri, Bastien, and Amara design a garden that uses sensors and AI to balance sunlight and soil. It’s a gentle way for children to see that technology mirrors human choices—careful design yields growth; careless design creates imbalance.

Why it matters in 2025

As generative AI enters every subject, literacy must include ethics. Students who learn to question technology now will lead responsibly later.
